What kind of binocular do i need for star gazing?

I need one for general night time viewing and for birdwatching in the day time. I will be buying one online and also i won't be buying a tripod so yeah; what kind of bino should i be looking for?
What would i be able to see at night if i get a 7x50mm binocular?

I have a friend who instead of birdwatching enjoys airplane watching. He sits in his yard and uses binoculars for viewing airplanes flying overhead. What would be a good choice of binocular for him to use? Also is there any way to find out what type of pharmacies online airplane and when it will fly over his house? Thanks.

I am getting a small gift (at the most fifteen dollars) for someone, and I know they like birdwatching. I'm sure they already have a birdfeeder, and getting birdseed would just make me look stupid! Also, any binoculars they would want are probably out, because the only good ones are very expensive. I also Buy Xenical do not want to get them a bird field guide, because they already have a ton! Does anyone who likes birdwatching know of any things that do not cost more than fifteeen dollars?
